prom dressesA one-of-a-kind dress for every girlA one-of-a-kind dress for every girlFENWICK ISLAND -- It's easy to avoid an embarrassing fashion faux pas this prom season thanks to a dress registration system now in place at many local shops.At Lennox East Beach Bride cheap prom dresses, located in Fenwick Island, owner Marlene Lennox said the store has been keeping records for more than 30 years to ensure that two girls don't show up to prom in the same dress."We've been registering since Day 1. Kids don't want to buy that special dress and get to prom and find someone else wearing it," she said. "The girl who puts the money down first is registered. That's her dress, that's her school and her function."Lennox said teenagers have even formed their own self-patrolled registry A-Line prom dresses, taking pictures and posting them to their Twitter or Facebook pages and forwarding dress information to friends."The minute they put the money down on the dress, they're on a gadget cheap prom dresses 2011," she said. "It's a priority for them."Scher's Bridal Shop in Pocomoke, Md., also keeps a log of registered dresses for each high school. Judi Scher, owner of the shop, said having a one-of-a-kind dress is extremely important on prom night."Kids at this age want to be unique and feel special," she said.Once the dresses are logged, Scher said gowns on the floor are marked so a schoolmate can't even try on another girl's dress."Sometimes they insist on trying something on even if we can't sell it to them," she said. "We try to catch them so it doesn't come to that point. We wouldn't want to ruin anyone's prom; it's too special of a day."Both Lennox's and Scher's stores don't allow the same gown to be purchased in another color or style either.Dover-based Simon's Bridal Shoppe has had a system in place for about five years, though different colors of a same dress may be purchased."Nobody wants to have the same dress as someone else cheap prom dresses," said manager Paula Waters. "We say there's a certain dress for everybody. There's lots of different styles and it takes a special girl to wear that special dress."Since each registration system is only in control of one shop, there is a chance that a similar dress could be purchased at a different bridal store.
