It might not be OK to jump out from behind bushes to scare kids in real life, but in Monsters, Inc. Scare Island, players won't get very far without freaking out plenty of virtual kids. The Lion King

Lion King - Young Simba just can't wait to be king. His father is the current King of the Savannah and the young prince is able to frolic the lands at will; jumping on and around other subjects of this animal kingdom. When King Mufasa is killed and Scar takes over the kingdom, Simba is banished from the lands of his birthright and has to grow up fast, honing his skills, for the day of his return.

Kids love this game based on Disney's animated movie, Tarzan. There's no learning to be found here, but the quality of the mindless entertainment is great. The 3D graphics are truly amazing, and the responsive use of the keyboard controls makes young kids feel like expert gamers. In the role of Tarzan and ultimately Jane, Terk (the ape) and Tantor (the elephant), kids run, jump and swing on vines as they travel through the jungle, progressing through up to 16 levels of play. Kids throw coconuts, or use other means of warding off enemies but otherwise the game is free of violence.

To help Tigger get the party music ready, children use their listening skills as they match the sounds of musical pipes. Children practice their alphabet skills with Kanga and Roo and are also exposed to exercises in counting, sequencing and categorization. After they complete each activity, a gift is presented at Eeyore's birthday table. The program culminates in his party, of course! In addition to the engaging activities, children will appreciate that they can print out workbook pages, stickers, bookmarks, concentration cards and ID cards, all featuring Winnie the Pooh artwork. The breadth and depth of the CD is a real strength, with three adjustable levels of difficulty for each game- making it perfect for toddlers and preschoolers alike.

With Disney's Winnie the Pooh Preschool, young children can gain an early understanding of letter and number recognition, phonics, sequencing, and more. Preschoolers help Pooh throw a birthday party and attend Christopher Robin's friendship celebration, while learning lessons about sharing and friendship.

Disney's 102 Dalmatians: Action Game

This CD-ROM may end up being your child's best friend as he or she uses puppy power to devour bones, rescue fellow pups and ultimately defeat the woman dogs love to hate, Cruella De Vil. Cruella is about to go bankrupt because her new line of toys has failed miserably: kids would rather play with their pets than Cruella's creations. So she reprograms her toys, transforming them from heaps of shiny junk into robot pet-nappers.

Kids can assume the identity of Domino, a boy pup or Oddball, a spot-free girl Dalmatian puppy, and set out to rescue fellow puppies. The puppies are stashed in crates in 16 locations that are increasingly difficult to navigate: when pups--er, kids--collect enough bones, rescue enough puppies, and stay away from Cruella's minions successfully, they move up a level of play and on to a different location. A toy store, the inside of Big Ben and Piccadilly Circus are just a few of the places that must be thoroughly sniffed around before completing the game's big goal: a battle with Cruella herself.

Other critters bearing clues, buried treasures, slick surfaces and additional opportunities to solve problems make Puppies to the Rescue a real tail-wagger. There are mini-games hidden within some levels that can be accessed separately, a sticker book that kids can piece together as they collect stickers on their puppy quest and animated sequences that reward problem solving and move the plot forward. The cute-as-heck puppy actions will please parents who prefer no violence; kids can make the pups run, jump, sniff, dig and tumble, but the most destructive weapon these pups have is their toy-destroying bark.

This CD-ROM is Windows only, and movement through the program is by keyboard or game pad; thankfully, the keying is more intuitive than some of Disney's other recent offerings. And unlike some movie tie-ins, this spot-on game does justice to Disney's beloved Dalmatian franchise. (Ages 8 and older).

The game is based on Disney's animated cartoon movie. You take control of Hercules, son of the god Zeus and a mortal woman, the strongest man in the world and the legendary hero in the Greek mythology. You must commit heroic deeds and overcome various obstacles to show your strength and courage. This is a 2D platform action game. Hercules can jump, grab ledges, swing on poles, and jump while running. He has a variety of attack moves at his disposal. He can execute a basic attack with his sword, or pull out different combo attacks. He can also Power Punch enemies, but he needs time to charge for this powerful attack. He can even slam the ground to reveal secret areas by performing a certain move while jumping. There are also different power-ups to collect, such as coins to grant bonus points at the end of the level, Hercules Action Figures to increase your hero rating, and upgrades to your sword - Sonic, Lightning, and Fireball swords.
